Check the Recipient Before Making a Transfer

Before sending money, always carefully check who you are transferring the funds to. Even a single incorrect digit in a phone number, card number, or account number can result in the money being sent to someone else.

In addition, scammers often use social engineering techniques. They may call and pretend to be your relative, friend, or acquaintance, claiming that they have been hospitalized, involved in a traffic accident, detained, or urgently need money. Scammers often call elderly people on landline phones, apply strong psychological pressure, prevent them from contacting their relatives, and demand that they transfer money immediately. In a similar way, they may manipulate children by pretending to be their parents or other close relatives.

To avoid mistakes and fraud:
•    before confirming a transfer, carefully check the recipient’s phone number, card number, or account number;
•    make sure that the recipient’s name displayed in the banking app matches the person you actually intend to send money to;
•    if you receive an unexpected request to transfer money, contact the person using a phone number already saved in your contacts and personally confirm the request;
•    do not transfer money under pressure if someone is rushing or frightening you, or telling you not to discuss the conversation with your relatives;
•    explain to elderly relatives and children that any urgent request to transfer money should first be verified by contacting a trusted family member.

Scammers rely on strong emotions and urgency. Taking a few minutes to verify the information and the recipient’s identity can help protect your money and prevent fraud.
